Common stainless steel grades

(1) 304 stainless steel: The most commonly used “food-grade” stainless steel, with excellent corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties (it may exhibit weak magnetism after processing).
(2) 316 stainless steel: Based on 304, molybdenum is added to significantly improve resistance to chloride ion corrosion (such as seawater and salt spray).
(3) 430 stainless steel: An inexpensive ferritic stainless steel with good resistance to nitric acid and organic acid corrosion. However, it contains chromium and no nickel, resulting in poor corrosion resistance and magnetism.
(4) 201 stainless steel: An economical grade developed to conserve nickel, partially replacing nickel with manganese and nitrogen, resulting in lower cost. Its corrosion resistance is significantly inferior to 304.
(5) 420 stainless steel: A martensitic stainless steel that can be heat-treated to increase hardness and strength. It is primarily used in the manufacture of knives and surgical instruments.
(6) 2205 duplex stainless steel: Combining a dual-phase structure of austenite and ferrite, it offers high strength and excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion.

304 Stainless Steel Strip

304 stainless steel is a universal stainless steel material; its rust resistance is stronger than the 200 series of stainless steel materials. High-temperature resistance is also better and can be as high as 1000-1200 degrees. 304 stainless steel has excellent stainless steel corrosion resistance and good intergranular corrosion resistance. For oxidizing acid, it is concluded in the experiment that the concentration of nitric acid below the boiling temperature of ≤65%, 304 stainless steel has strong corrosion resistance. It also has good corrosion resistance to alkali solutions and most organic and inorganic acids.

Cold Rolled Finishes

  • No.1: Rough, matte finish. Typically used for subsequent re-rolling or industrial applications where surface requirements are less stringent.
  • 2B: The most common and versatile finish. Smooth and flat with a slight silvery-white sheen. It serves as the base material for many further processes.
  • BA: Annealed in a controlled atmosphere furnace, the surface is smooth, bright, and highly reflective. Excellent cleanliness.

Mechanically Polished Finishes

  • No.3: Also known as a “polished finish.” Polished with a 100-120 grit abrasive, the surface exhibits continuous, intermittent graining.
  • No.4: The most commonly used polished finish. Polished with a 150-180 grit abrasive, the surface exhibits continuous, clear graining that is delicate, soft, and easy to clean.
  • HL: Continuous, straight graining (hairline) is formed through mechanical friction and is available in long-grain HL and short-grain HS finishes. It is aesthetically pleasing and can conceal minor scratches.
  • No.6: Finer than No.4, with discontinuous grain and lower gloss.

1. What are Cold Rolled Steel Strips?

Cold-rolled stainless steel strips use stainless steel strips or stainless steel sheets as raw material and are rolled with a cold mill at room temperature. The thickness is 0.1mm-3mm, width is 100mm-1600mm. Cold-rolled stainless steel strips can be rolled or processed into coated steel sheets and have the advantages of a smooth surface, high dimensional precision, good mechanical properties, etc.

2. What are Cold Rolled Steel Strips?
