Character interpretation

Production process introduction

This product is made from high-quality Q235 cold-rolled steel sheets using an advanced continuous hot-dip galvanizing line. After pickling and rust removal, followed by reduction annealing, it is dip-galvanized in a zinc bath at approximately 460°C. The zinc layer thickness is precisely controlled using an air knife, followed by a chromate passivation treatment and oiling to ensure excellent rust resistance and surface quality.

The difference between Q235A/B/C/D

The base material (parent material) for Q235 galvanized steel coil can be Q235A, Q235B, Q235C, or Q235D. The main differences lie in the chemical composition (especially the carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus content) and deoxidation method, which directly affect the steel’s mechanical properties and weldability.

Grade Main Differences Features and Applications
Q235A Contains the highest levels of carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus. Only mechanical properties are guaranteed, not chemical composition. This grade has the lowest quality requirements and is not used for critical welded structures. It also offers the lowest cost. It is commonly used for general structural components.
Q235B The most commonly used grade. Requires acceptable mechanical properties and guarantees that carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus content are within specified limits. It offers excellent overall performance (strength, ductility, and weldability) and offers the best value for money. It is one of the most commonly used base materials for galvanized coils.
Q235C Requires acceptable mechanical properties and has stricter carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus content requirements than Grade B. It offers higher quality, with low-temperature impact toughness exceeding that of Grade B. It is typically produced from killed steel, resulting in a more uniform material quality. It is used in applications with higher requirements.
Q235D Requires acceptable mechanical properties and has the strictest requirements for carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus content. It offers the highest quality, ensuring low-temperature impact toughness. It must be produced from killed steel. It is used for critical welded structures in low-temperature environments (such as those in the extreme cold regions of northern China), and has the highest cost.

Standard Zinc coating information and standards

(1) Zinc coating codes: Z30-Z275 are commonly available. Common zinc coatings include GB/T Z80, Z100, Z180, and Z275, as well as European and American standards G60 and G90. Customization is available upon request.

(2) Spangle Form: Available in standard, small, and smooth finishes to meet diverse application requirements. The smooth, uniform finish is ideal for subsequent spray coating and color coating.

(3) Implementation Standards: Strictly adheres to GB/T 2518-2019.

Processing and precautions

This product has excellent bending, stamping, and welding properties. However, please note the following during processing:

  • Welding: Arc welding or gas shielded welding is recommended, and the work area should be well ventilated.
  • Bending: A bending radius of at least 1 times the plate thickness is recommended to prevent zinc layer powdering and shedding.
  • Storage: Store in a dry environment, away from corrosive media.

Package

Vertical packaging: The most common and standard packaging method.

  • Inner packaging: Wrapped with a layer of rust-proof oil paper or vapor-phase rust-inhibiting (VCI) paper to prevent white rust.
  • Outer packaging: Sturdy steel corner guards or steel plates are placed on both sides of the steel coil (at the eye).

Horizontal packaging: The steel coil is placed horizontally.

Rust-proof paper, steel strapping, and waterproof cloth are also used. Sometimes, wooden blocks or other supports are placed under the cylindrical surface of the steel coil to prevent rolling.
