Q195 Galvanized Steel Sheet

Q195 galvanized steel sheet is made from a Q195 mild steel substrate, hot-dip galvanized. The zinc coating offers excellent corrosion resistance, extending the service life while retaining the base material’s good toughness and workability. It’s a relatively low-cost option and is widely used in applications such as building roofs, partitions, air ducts, furniture, and hardware, where high strength and rust prevention are not essential. Wanzhi Steel, a leading steel sheet manufacturer, has specialized in Q195 galvanized steel sheet for decades and stocks a wide variety of thicknesses, zinc coatings, lengths, and widths. Core Features

  • Low Carbon Toughness: The properties of low carbon steel give it excellent plasticity, making it easy to bend, stamp, and perform other cold-forming processes without cracking.
  • Moderate Strength: The yield strength is approximately 195 MPa, making it suitable for non-load-bearing or lightly load-bearing structures.
  • Corrosion Resistance: The hot-dip galvanized surface layer creates a physical and electrochemical barrier, effectively preventing rust and extending the service life of the substrate.
  • Surface Spangle: The surface exhibits a unique spangle crystal pattern, a typical appearance of hot-dip galvanizing. Wanzhi Steel can customize the spangle size.
  • Surface Treatment: Optional post-treatments such as passivation and oiling can further enhance white rust resistance or provide temporary protection.
  • Low Cost: The combination of Q195 material and galvanizing offers a cost-effective option, making it an entry-level choice for rust-resistant sheet metal.

Applications

Roofs

It can be processed into roof vent covers and small canopy panels. It can also serve as auxiliary support for the roofs of low-rise or temporary buildings, where structural strength is not a high requirement.

Baseboards

It can be used as base for small appliances, baseboards for simple shelves, and baseboards for temporary outdoor platforms, supporting light weights thanks to its basic strength.

Casings and Containers

It can be used as casings for small appliances such as fans, humidifiers, computer case, lamps, and electric heaters, protective casings for mechanical equipment, enclosures for electrical control cabinets, storage boxes, and the outer lining of liquid storage tanks.

Walls

It can be used as wall studs and interior wall partition frames in lightweight steel structures, providing base support for the walls. It can also serve as a simple protective base for exterior walls.

Carriage Interiors

It can be used as auxiliary lining for the interior of small freight cars, applied to the side walls or partial areas of the floor to enhance wear and corrosion resistance and facilitate maintenance.

Recommendations for zinc layer selection

(1) Indoor, dry environments: Choose a thinner zinc coating, such as 60g/m² or 40g/m².

(2) Outdoor or humid environments: Choose a thicker zinc coating, 80g/m² or higher.

(3) If subsequent painting is required: We recommend a spangle-free or mini-spangle surface for better adhesion.

(4) For deep drawing: Ensure the material’s ductility meets the required requirements.

Interpretation of the Meaning of “Q195”

“Q”: Represents the steel’s yield strength.

“195”: Indicates the steel’s yield strength is at least 195 MPa. This is a core mechanical property that determines the material’s load-bearing capacity and formability.

“Galvanizing” Process

Hot-dip galvanizing is a classic rust prevention process, the most popular method. This involves immersing cold-rolled or hot-rolled steel coils in molten zinc to form a uniform, dense zinc coating. This coating isolates the steel substrate from the corrosive environment and, even in the event of damage, acts as a “sacrificial anode,” preferentially resisting corrosion and protecting the steel.

Q195 Galvanized Steel Sheet VS Q235 Galvanized Steel Sheet

Features Q195 Galvanized Steel Sheet Q235 Galvanized Steel Sheet
Core Specifications Yield Strength ≥ 195 MPa Yield Strength ≥ 235 MPa
Processing Performance Excellent Good
Hardness/Rigidity Relatively low High
Application Preferences For parts requiring high formability Parts with high structural and support requirements
Cost Usually slightly lower Usually slightly higher

Note: The most fundamental difference is that Q235 is stronger, harder, and has better load-bearing performance. Q195 is softer, has excellent deep drawing and tensile properties, and is not prone to cracking.

FAQs

Q: Can Q195 galvanized sheet be welded? What precautions should be taken?

A: Yes, but be aware that the zinc layer will volatilize at high temperatures, producing fumes. Ventilation is essential, as this may affect weld quality.

Q: What is white rust on the surface of galvanized sheet? How can it be treated and prevented?

A: White rust is a corrosion product of zinc and is typically caused by humid, poorly ventilated environments. Preventing it is by maintaining a dry, well-ventilated storage environment.

Q: How should I choose between galvanized sheet and stainless steel sheet?

A: The main considerations are cost and corrosion environment. Q195 galvanized sheet is cost-effective and suitable for most general corrosion environments. Stainless steel is more expensive and is suitable for applications with high corrosion rates or where aesthetics are of paramount importance.
