What is tin-plated steel?

Tin-plated steel, commonly known as electrolytic tinplate or tinplate, is a composite metal material manufactured by applying a uniform layer of tin to the surface of low-carbon cold-rolled steel sheet through continuous electroplating, followed by post-treatment processes such as annealing, passivation, and oil coating. It possesses excellent processing properties—including formability and weldability—and serves as a core foundational material in metal packaging and precision manufacturing.

Production steps

• Selection of steel: select suitable steel as the substrate and perform pretreatment such as cleaning and rust removal.
• Tin plating: Similar to the galvanizing process, put the cleaned steel sheet into the tinning tank, and form a layer of tin on the surface of the steel by electroplating or hot-dip plating. This step can control the thickness of the coating. You can contact Wanzhi Steel to customize the coating.

What is the difference between tinplate and TFS?

TFS is an electrolytic chrome-plated steel sheet with excellent paintability and paint adhesion. Tinplate (ETP) is a tin-plated thin steel sheet with excellent weldability and corrosion resistance. The coating composition of the two is different, so the characteristics are also different.
