What is brushed aluminum sheet?

Brushed aluminum is aluminum that has been mechanically treated to produce a fine linear grain pattern on its surface. This process enhances their visual appeal while maintaining the metal’s inherent strength and corrosion resistance.

Unlike polished aluminum, which has a mirror-like sheen, brushed aluminum has a soft, non-reflective surface that is ideal for applications that require reduced glare.

Common grades of brushed aluminum sheets

• 1050: 99.5% pure aluminum, soft, easy to form, excellent corrosion resistance, weldable, low mechanical strength.
• 1060: Slightly higher purity than 1050, better corrosion resistance, good deep drawing plasticity, low strength, and cannot be heat treated.
• 1100: commercial pure aluminum, easy to bend, stamp, weld, good corrosion resistance, the weakest among common alloys.
• 3003: medium strength, excellent weldability and formability, cannot be heat treated.
• 5005: higher strength than 1100, similar to 3003, good anodizing reaction, better color retention.
• 5052: high strength, excellent marine corrosion resistance, higher strength than 3003/5005, good weldability and formability.
• 5083: high strength marine alloy, excellent weldability, stress corrosion cracking resistance.
• 6061: heat treatable, strength higher than 5052 and lower than 7075, machinable.
