What Is PPGL Sheet?

PPGL stands for pre-painted galvalume steel, which is a kind of color-coated steel with GL as substrate. It combines the strength of steel with excellent anti-corrosion of Zn-Al coating. The galvalume coating is made of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. Structure of PPGL Sheet

From top to bottom, it consists of the top coating layer, primer coating, pre-treatment coating, Al -Zn coating, base metal, Al-Zn coating, pre-treatment coating, primer coating, and top coating. The base metal is the most inner part, which often uses cold rolled steel, which is covered with Al-Zn coating. This is the GL sheet. Then PG sheets will be cleaned and degreased to form a layer of passivated metal chromate on the surface, which makes it easy to paint. A primer is a preparatory coating on materials to ensure better adhesion and also provide additional protection. While the finish coat makes the surface smooth and good-looking. PPGL Sheet Production Process

It is very similar to the manufacturing process of PPGI. It starts from uncoiling, welding, pretreatment, primer painting, baking, cooling, twice-painting, baking and cooling again, quality control, and coiling for sale.

The substrate sheet first goes through a pre-treatment system for smoothing, cleaning, and degreasing. After that, a chemical conversion coating layer is formed. Then it will go through the coil coating process to be painted. The most commonly used method is double-sided and double-painted, which means both sides are painted twice.
