Galvalume metal roof is a roofing material with galvalume steel plate as the main material. It has excellent weather resistance and corrosion resistance, as well as high heat resistance and insulation performance. It uses hot-rolled steel plate as the substrate, and a layer of aluminum-zinc alloy is plated on the surface of the steel plate by hot-dip plating. It is widely used in roof construction and architectural decoration.

Galvalume metal roofing is a type of roofing sheet made from galvanized steel sheets. Galvalume steel roof combines the advantages of aluminum and zinc. Through hot-dip plating technology, a tightly adherent aluminum-zinc alloy layer is formed on the surface of the steel plate. This alloy is mainly composed of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon solidified at a high temperature of 600°C. Its entire structure is composed of aluminum, iron, silicon, and zinc, forming a dense quaternary crystal. It has excellent weather resistance, corrosion resistance, and good heat resistance.

Galvalume metal roofs have a relatively long lifespan. Generally, if properly installed and maintained, they can last 20 to 60 years or even longer. The specific lifespan depends on the quality of the materials, installation techniques, exposure, maintenance efforts, and environmental conditions. To ensure a longer lifespan, it is critical to select high-quality materials. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and repainting, will extend its lifespan.

Its unique 55% aluminum-zinc alloy structure not only provides excellent corrosion resistance but also offers long-lasting electrochemical protection for cut edges, effectively slowing rust spread and exhibiting particularly outstanding resistance to edge corrosion.
This material can be used stably in high-temperature environments up to 300°C for extended periods, with short-term heat resistance reaching 500-600°C. Simultaneously, its bright silver surface possesses excellent heat reflectivity, contributing to building energy conservation.
The surface presents a uniform, shiny silver-white appearance that is both aesthetically pleasing and modern. Although the initial investment is slightly higher, its exceptionally long service life and extremely low maintenance requirements result in a higher long-term overall cost-effectiveness.
It not only possesses good formability, ductility, and weldability, but its surface is also ideally suited for use as a substrate for color-coated and printed steel coils, exhibiting strong coating adhesion.

First, the substrate undergoes rigorous cleaning and chemical treatment to remove rolling grease, dust, and oxides, providing an absolutely clean and active surface for the coating. This process typically includes degreasing and rinsing steps to ensure optimal adhesion of the subsequent coating.
The pretreated steel sheet then enters the core process—hot-dip coating. The steel sheet is rapidly passed through a molten 55% aluminum-zinc alloy bath. By precisely controlling the immersion time and temperature, a dense and uniform alloy coating is formed on the steel sheet surface. This unique coating is the fundamental guarantee of the material’s excellent corrosion resistance and long service life.
After coating, the steel sheet undergoes air knife treatment to control the coating thickness and is then cooled in a cooling tower to solidify the coating. Afterward, the steel sheet is straightened to ensure flatness and cut to length according to customer requirements.
Finally, these sheets can be processed into various types of corrugated or corrugated roofing panels through a continuous roll forming process, and undergo strict quality inspection before leaving the factory.
Determining which roofing material is “best” between Galvalume, Galvanized steel, and Aluminum roofing depends on specific needs and preferences. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages.
| Metal Roof Types | Capability |
| Galvalume Metal Roof | 1. Combines the corrosion resistance of aluminum with the strength of steel.
2. Offers excellent durability and can resist corrosion even in salty or industrial environments. 3. Maintains its appearance well and resists fading. 4. Its price is higher than the other two metals. |
| Galvanized Steel Roofing | 1. Galvanized steel roofing is coated with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion.
2. Available in a wide range of colors and styles. 3. It is generally less expensive than Galvalume but may not offer the same level of corrosion resistance. 4. If your requirements are not particularly demanding, it is recommended to choose Galvanized Roof Sheet. |
| Aluminum Metal Roofing | 1. Aluminum roofing is lightweight and resistant to corrosion.
2. Offers good durability and can withstand extreme weather conditions. 3. It is recyclable, making it an environmentally friendly choice. 4. It is less hard and more prone to dents and scratches than other materials. |

Key factors affecting galvalume metal roofing pricing:
1. Coating: This is a key factor. The higher the coating weight, the higher the cost. The coating of AZ100 is more expensive than that of AZ50.
2. Gauge/thickness: Thicker panels (22Ga vs. 26Ga) are more durable but more expensive.
3. Finishes and coatings: Additional coatings (e.g., PVDF coatings) improve weather resistance and increase price.
4. Profiles and designs: Complex shapes (standing seam vs. corrugated seam) increase manufacturing costs.
5. Quantity and logistics: Bulk orders reduce unit costs; distant locations increase shipping costs.

Q1: How to maintain a metal roof?
A: Regular inspection and cleaning of roof debris and dirt, checking the drainage system, and periodic coating maintenance all fall under the category of routine maintenance. Repair or replace any damaged parts promptly, and clean the drains regularly.
Q2: What is the difference between Galvalume and ordinary galvanized steel (GI)?
A: The fundamental difference lies in the chemical composition and performance of the coating. Galvalume coating consists of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. Ordinary galvanized steel coating is made of over 99% pure zinc. Its overall corrosion resistance life is 2-4 times that of ordinary galvanized steel.
Q3: What is the actual lifespan of a Galvalume roof?
A: Its lifespan highly depends on the environment. Typical rural/urban environments: 40-60 years or even longer; industrial/polluted urban environments: 25-40 years; high-salinity coastal areas: over 20 years (higher coating weight and corrosion-resistant coatings such as PVDF are recommended).
Q4: How much does it cost? Why is it more expensive than GI sheet?
A: The specific price depends on the specifications you choose (thickness, plating, coating) and the order quantity. The main reason it’s more expensive than regular galvanized sheet is its higher value and longer-term costs.
Q5: Can I get a sample? How long does it take to ship after placing an order?
Of course, you can get a sample. We encourage customers to confirm the quality before ordering. The shipping date is generally determined based on the order quantity, and typically takes 7-15 business days.
