20 gauge Galvanized steel is widely used in many fields such as construction and automobile manufacturing due to its excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and plasticity. Its zinc layer is achieved by dipping the steel in molten zinc or using electroplating technology. This is a base steel on which a variety of processes can be performed, such as corrugating it, coating it, pattern printing it. Wanzhi Steel specializes in the production and wholesale of 20-gauge galvanized steel sheets, galvanized steel coil,s and galvanized steel strips, all of which can be cut in thickness, width, and length. If you need 20-Ga GI steel, please feel free to contact us.
Moderate strength: medium strength, better than 22-gauge, 24-gauge thinner galvanized sheet, lower than 16-gauge, 14-gauge thick galvanized sheet.
Easy processing: has a certain toughness, suitable for cold bending, rolling, punching, welding and other processes, often used to make profiled sheet, corrugated sheet, parts and accessories.
Anti-corrosion: the surface galvanized layer provides good protection, effectively resists rust, suitable for humid or mildly corrosive environment.
Durability: the thickness of the galvanized layer is usually ASTM A653 standard, such as G60, G90, and the outdoor service life can reach 10-30 years.
Lightweight: lighter than a thick gauge steel plate, easy to transport and install, and reduces construction costs.
Cost-effectiveness: the price is lower than that of a thick-gauge galvanized steel plate, the cost is moderate, and it is balanced between anti-corrosion, strength, and processing. It is widely used in small and medium-sized projects with limited budgets and no extreme performance requirements.
Appearance: The galvanized layer can provide a smooth or embossed surface, and some products can be further painted (such as epoxy, polyester coating) to enhance the aesthetics and protection.

Commonly used galvanized layer
Z60: Total coating weight on both sides is 60g/m² (about 20-30g/m² on one side). Basic corrosion protection, suitable for general environments, such as indoor dry environments, with low cost.
Z80: Total coating weight on both sides is 80g/m² (about 30-40g/m² on one side). Medium corrosion protection, suitable for slightly humid environments, such as home appliance housings and ordinary building materials.
Z120: Total coating weight on both sides is 120g/m² (about 50-60g/m² on one side). Strong corrosion protection, used in outdoor or humid environments.
Z180/Z200: 180-200g/m² on both sides (about 90-100g/m² on one side). High corrosion resistance, suitable for harsh environments, such as coastal areas and chemical equipment.
G30: 30g/m² on both sides, about 15g/m² on one side. The coating is thinner and has good welding performance. It is mostly used for stamping parts that require subsequent processing.
G60: 60g/m² on both sides (about 30g/m² on one side). It takes into account both corrosion resistance and processability, and is commonly used in automotive panels and home appliance panels.
G90: The total coating weight on both sides is 90g/m² (about 45g/m² on one side). The corrosion resistance is better than G60, suitable for outdoor structural parts.
Recommended selection
Prioritize corrosion resistance: Select Z120 and above (such as long-term outdoor exposure).
Need processing/welding: Select G60, G90, etc.
Economic type: Z60 or Z80 can meet general needs.

Which is thicker 16 or 20-gauge steel?
16 gauge is thicker than 20 gauge. The reason why steel thickness is inversely proportional to the gauge number stems from the early development of steel gauge measurement, when measurement was based on 1-inch thick plates, and 1-inch thick steel was measured in decreasing fractions, such as 1/14-inch thick, 1/16-inch thick, 1/20-inch thick, and so on. Later, the number in the denominator became a simple identifier and eventually became a “gauge number.” So, 1/16-inch became 16 gauge, and 1/20-inch became 20 gauge.
So, we convert this number back to fractional format and we get the actual nominal thickness dimension.
What are gauges?
Gauges (sometimes spelled “gages” and abbreviated “GA”) are a standardized method of measuring and classifying thin steel products such as plates, coils, tubes, and wire. As the number increases, the thickness of the product decreases inversely. The thickest plate gauge is 3GA and the thinnest is 38GA.

20 Gauge Galvanized Steel Product Type
Galvanized flat sheet/coil: The most basic sheet/roll is a flat product cut to a specific size. The galvanized coil is easy to transport and store, and can be processed continuously as needed.
Corrugated galvanized steel sheet: The galvanized steel sheet is processed into a sheet with a specific waveform, such as a trapezoidal, wavy, etc. through roller cold bending and other processes, and has good mechanical properties.
Punching/checkered galvanized steel sheet/coil: Punching holes of various shapes and sizes on galvanized steel sheets, or rolling out specific textures, can be used for ventilation, sound insulation, anti-slip, decoration and other occasions.
Patterned printed/color-coated galvanized sheet: The surface has patterns, which increases friction and aesthetics. It is often used for stair steps, platform pedals, etc., and also has a certain decorative effect.

20-gauge galvanized steel packaging
Packaging of 20 gauge galvanized sheet
Iron sheet packaging: For galvanized sheets cut into fixed lengths, iron sheet packaging is generally used. The inner lining is moisture-proof paper to prevent the steel sheet from getting damp and rusting, and the outer lining is tied to the bracket with iron waist. The tying must be firm to prevent the galvanized sheets inside from rubbing against each other and affecting the surface quality.

Roll packaging: Galvanized coils are usually first covered with moisture-proof paper, then the guard ring is fixed in the shaft, the annular anti-collision angle is fixed to the outer ring, and then fixed with strapping tape, and finally the outer layer is wrapped with rust-proof woven cloth or plastic cloth to play a role in moisture-proof, collision-proof and oxidation-proof.
