What is hot-rolled steel strip?
Hot rolled steel strip refers to a strip of steel that is continuously rolled through a hot rolling mill after the steel billet is heated to the recrystallization temperature (usually 1100°C~1300°C). Its surface has iron oxide scale. Compared with cold rolled steel strip, hot rolled steel strip is rolled at high temperature, has higher toughness and good machinability, and is suitable for various structural parts and industrial uses.

- High strength and ductility: elongation 20%~30%, yield strength of Q235B and Q355B reaches 235MPa~550MPa. It can withstand large mechanical stress while maintaining stable shape.
- Easy to process and form: easy to bend, cut, stamp and weld, suitable for subsequent processing. Steels of various shapes can be manufactured.
- Economical: Because the production method is direct hot rolling forming, the annealing and finishing processes of cold rolling are omitted, the cost is reduced by 15%~30%, which has price advantages.
- Appearance: There is a natural oxide layer on the surface, which can be removed by pickling or shot blasting, suitable for further surface treatment such as galvanizing and coating to improve corrosion resistance.

- Metallurgy and metal processing: as the raw material of cold-rolled steel plate, the thinner and flatter plate obtained after cold rolling is used for anti-corrosion parts of buildings and home appliances.

1. Classification by material
- Low carbon steel (such as Q235B): general type, good weldability, used for building structures.
- High strength steel (such as Q355B): mechanical parts with high load-bearing requirements.
- Weathering steel (such as 09CuPCrNi-A): used for open-air facilities, resistant to atmospheric corrosion.
2. Classification by surface treatment
- Black skin coil (unpickled): directly used for structural parts with no appearance requirements.

Production process
- Steelmaking and continuous casting: The molten iron is smelted in a converter/electric furnace and continuously cast into 200~250mm thick slabs.
- Heating furnace: The slab is heated to 1250°C±50°C to ensure rolling plasticity.
- Rough rolling and finishing rolling: Rough rolling (thickness → 30~50mm) → finishing rolling (final thickness 1.0~4.0mm).
- Laminar cooling and coiling: Control the cooling rate to adjust the mechanical properties and coil into steel coils (inner diameter Ø508-760mm).
- Finishing treatment: Optional post-processes such as pickling, straightening, and striping.
