BANGKOK, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) held a roundtable on “The Future of the World: An Asian Perspective” in Bangkok, Thailand, on Aug. 26, local time. Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent a letter to congratulate the opening of the meeting.
On behalf of the Chinese government, the host country of the Forum, Wang Yi expressed his warm congratulations on the opening of the roundtable.
Wang Yi said that since its establishment, Boao Forum for Asia has always been committed to promoting Asia’s opening up, development and economic integration process.
Against the backdrop of accelerating changes in the current century, slowing growth of the world economy and challenges to the global development agenda, Boao Forum for Asia echoes the United Nations Future Summit and organizes this conference under the theme of “The Future of the World: Asia’s Perspective”, which is timely and of great significance.
As the birthplace of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, Asia is an important force in promoting changes in the global governance system and multilateralism. The Great Way is not alone, and all actions lead to the future.
We should continue to hold high the banner of multilateralism, put into practice the concept of shared vision of global governance, firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core, promote equal and orderly world multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization, make Asian voices louder and inject stronger Asian power to improve global governance, draw a new blueprint for Asia’s and the world’s future development, and build a community of shared destiny for mankind together.
Wang Yi pointed out that development is the eternal theme of human society. At present, the cause of global development has entered a critical juncture. Asia, as the region with the greatest development vitality and potential in the world, plays a pivotal role in the process of global sustainable development.
We should look to the future and take the United Nations Future Summit as an opportunity to put development at the center of the international agenda.
And we should adhere to the concept of people-centered development so that the fruits of development can benefit all countries. We should continue to promote deeper integration and better connectivity, adhere to innovation-driven development, strengthen cooperation in areas such as new industrialization and artificial intelligence, and accelerate the development of new-quality productive forces, so that all Asian countries can have a future full of opportunities.
As the host country of Boao Forum for Asia, China will continue to support the forum to be based in Asia, embrace the world, promote cooperation, lead the way, and make greater contributions to the common development of Asia and the rest of the world, Wang said, and wished the roundtable a complete success.
The roundtable, hosted by Boao Forum for Asia, is aimed at echoing the Future Summit of the United Nations to be held in September this year, gathering Asian consensus on unity in addressing global challenges and building a better future for the world together.
